Biotechnology and life sciences are key levers for the transformation towards a sustainable, modern and healthy society worldwide. Representing the different biotech sectors (health, agri & biobased) at regional and federal level, bio.be is the recognized voice of the biotech community to boost innovation and industrialization in Belgium and beyond. As we believe there is more power in “We” than “I”, our mantra is to ensure: “Let’s create, connect and communicate, together!”
Under impulse of bio.be, discussions have been set-up to create the legislative framework for ATMPs in Belgium. The new legislation, the changed law of December 19th 2008, was published on December 28th 2018, in consultation with the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP), the cabinet of the Minister of Health, the Superior Health Council, the Council of Belgian University Hospitals, representatives of the Banks for Human Body Material and representatives of the Belgian biopharmaceutical industry. With the upcoming federal government formation, bio.be, in concertation with several actors, will continue to emphasize the importance to obtain the Royal Decree, the remaining piece to implement the above mentioned law, as well as the refinement of the existing legislation. This in order to continue to stimulate Research & Development, and production of ATMPs in Belgium
